Alkmaar and Bath: connected for 80 years

Mayor Anja Schouten recently visited the English city of Bath. She celebrated the 80th anniversary of the city link between Alkmaar and Bath. Together with her fellow mayor, she unveiled a commemorative plaque near a young oak tree, a gift from Alkmaar to Bath.

The bond between both cities arose immediately after the war, when Bath offered help to Alkmaar. During the visit, Elias and Ida Prins, who played an important role in this, were also mentioned. That friendship still lives on in exchanges between sports and music associations. Earlier this year Alkmaar planted an oak tree on the avenue of Bath, as a sign of solidarity.
