From 2 to 8 september, the annual International Festival (Bergama Kermesi) took place in Bergama and two AUC board members participated in it for several days. The main purpose of this visit was to re-establish contacts after the pandemic with various organizations in the Turkish partner city.
Thus, among other things, a conversation took place with a school Dome, which will focus mainly on technical training for the benefit of the two new industrial parks to be set up in the vicinity of Bergama. As in the Netherlands, there is also a lack of technically skilled employees in Turkey. In addition, a visit was also made to the Akif Ersezgin Anadolu Lisesi, the lyceum with which the Murmellius Gymnasium Alkmaar has had exchanges for 12 years.
Furthermore, contacts with the Bergama photo club were renewed and talks were held with the Turkish branch of Best Buddies (an International Volunteer Association) and an eco-organization that has plans to promote eco-tourism in the beautiful Kozak nature reserve.
Reception mayor
Naturally, there was also a conversation with the mayor of Bergama, Mr. Tanju Celik and a visit to musical performances in the evening. Fortunately, there was still time to visit the world-famous Asklepion and the incomparably beautiful Acropolis of ancient Pergamon.
