The Model Spoorclub Alkmaar (MSA) was again present at the annual event Die Bahnwelttage in Darmstadt during the days around Ascension Day. This time it was a special visit The Eisenbahnmuseum Darmstadt/Kranichstein is fifty years old and that was celebrated extensively. Numerous representatives from the railway World, Museum world and rural, plus local authorities were present and gave their speech there. The MSA also participated. Bob de Mon characterized the museum as a biracial institution. ,,On the one hand they cherish and maintain the past, on the other hand they are constantly working to ensure the future of the museum."That duality had symbolically brought the MSA together in an oil painting of the steam locomotive “SuckerSuzi”. This locomotive has been under restoration for some years and should start running again in the future. During the official celebration, this painting was presented to the museum.
The visit of the MSA was not only special because of this anniversary. Exactly twenty years ago was the first exchange with the Eisenbahnmuseum. but not only that, this time a friend of one of the members also went to Darmstadt, the first female participant.
As has become tradition in recent years, the male members of the Model Railway Club slept in their ‘own’ sleeping car at the emplacement. This was linked to the baggage car in which The brought Model Railway on the theme of the museum Steam Tram Hoorn/Medemblik was set up. There were no complaints about the number of visitors and spontaneous contacts. The wagon was regularly full. One of our special visitors should not go unmentioned. Faithful as he is, Bernd Schaefer, former head of the Darmstadt Urban Exchange Committee, was again in the party. All in all, it was a successful visit.
Unfortunately, the promised return visit of the museum to Alkmaar, at the end of april this year, could not take place due to the many preparations for the anniversary two weeks later. Now a return visit after the summer holidays is expected..
