Photoclub Alkmaar, together with Photoclub Bergama, presents a special international photography project with the theme “Transport and Buildings”. In this project, photographers from both cities capture their own surroundings and share their images with each other. The project shows how two cities from different countries can meet through photography.
The first exhibition takes place in Alkmaar's Turkish partner city Bergama during the Kermes Festival (cultural festival and fair), which runs from June 29 to July 5, 2026. The opening of the exhibition is on June 30 at the Cultural Center of Bergama.
Later this year, the exhibition will also be presented in Alkmaar. The exhibition will take place at Fabrique Unique, Pettemerstraat 37 in Alkmaar. The opening is scheduled for Monday, August 24. The exact time will be announced later.
For this project, the members of the Alkmaar Photo Club spent several days photographing together and individually in Alkmaar and the surrounding area. The images are discussed and selected jointly. The final photos are printed in large format and, together with the photos from Bergama, form an exhibition that makes the connection between the two cities visible.
Cultural exchange and cooperation
With this project, the photographers aim not only to showcase their work but also to stimulate cultural exchange and cooperation between the partner cities of Alkmaar and Bergama.
This exchange was established at the initiative of the Alkmaar Exchange Committee (AUC). On behalf of the Municipality of Alkmaar, the AUC maintains contact with 5 European partner cities and coordinates, promotes, and subsidizes exchanges in the fields of culture, sports, education, and knowledge exchange.
Everyone is warmly welcome to visit the exhibition. Admission is free from August 24 to September 6, between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
