A group of 32 students from the Eötvös József Gimnázium from our Hungarian twin city Tata was received on Monday 1 June in the Alkmaar city hall by Alderman Lars Ruiter. 32 students from Murmellius Gymnasium Alkmaar were also present at the reception. They accommodated the guests in the house, so that there really was an exchange.
The Hungarians were visiting the Murmellius from 30 May to 5 June. Last autumn, a group of Alkmaar students visited Tata. Next school year, another group of students will go to Tata. All this on the basis of an exchange program that was started back in the nineties.

From 30 May to 5 June, 35 Hungarian pupils and 4 teachers stayed with pupils and teachers of the Murmellius Gymnasium. After arriving on Saturday night, everyone was picked up by the host families. For the bus drivers we rented an Airbnb in the city center of Alkmaar. The bus was parked at the Meent.
Everyone spent Sunday with the host family. It was a hot day and most of the students sought out the coolness of the beach and the sea. With the teachers we went to the Frans Halsmuseum in Haarlem.
On Monday, all pupils, Hungarian and Dutch, were received in the former town hall in the Langestraat. After a warm speech by the alderman and a word of thanks from two Hungarian pupils, we were given a tour of the historic building and a group photo was taken. in the afternoon we had a cruise on the Alkmaar canals with the famous bending over for the bridges.
On Tuesday, a trip on the Hoorn – Medemblik steam train and a boat trip to Enkhuizen, with a visit to the Zuiderzee museum, were on the program.
Wednesday We were in Amsterdam, for a walk through the oldest part of the city, including the red light district. Then there was an interactive tour in the Rijksmuseum. Most Hungarians had not heard of Rembrandt before, but they knew van Gogh.
Thursday was the highlight of the week: a bike ride on Texel with wind Force 5! All the Hungarian students were able to ride their bikes, one a little better than the other, but they all covered the distance from the ferry port to Ecomare and via Den Burg back to the boat. That was quite an achievement.
On Friday morning, the bus left for Tata again at 5.00 am.
The week was very successful. Everyone had a good time and our students are already looking forward to our return visit to our friends.
