Exchange Murmellius gymnasium with Tata

subject: Tata

In May 2025, 26 pupils and 3 tutors from Murmellius Gymnasium travelled to Tata. The train journey was long, but comfortable. We arrived late Saturday night and were picked up by our host families.

Traditionally, all guests spent the Sunday with the host families. In our (i.e. companions’) case, this meant a visit to Budapest, where we visited, among other things, the Halászbástya (the fishermen's Bastion) and the Mátyástemplom (the Matthias Church).

On Monday, after a speech by the rector in the auditorium of the gymnasium, we were received at the town hall. The mayor told us about the long history of our exchange and we received a copy of the newspaper article from our very first visit to Tata. Then the students had a sports and games afternoon.

The evening-and that applied to all evenings – everyone spent with their host family.

On Tuesday, the Hungarians took us for a "light-hike", a euphemism for a tough climbing and scrambling trip in the Hungarian mountains. There were a lot of complaints from the students. Children slipped and their clothes got dirty. In retrospect, this excursion turned out to be a favorite with most! We also visited the impressive castle of Viségrád that day and crossed the bridge to Slovakia at Esztergom.

On Wednesday We were in Tihány, near Lake Balaton and on Thursday in Budapest. Among other things, we got a VR tour through Buda about Hungarian history.

Our students were very impressed by the hospitality of the Hungarians. They had a wonderful week. And that also applies to the escorts!
