The Bath-Alkmaar Twinning Association (BATA) joins forces with the National Trust in Bath for a scenic walk from Bath city centre to Bathford. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the city link between Bath and Alkmaar, a special Walk has been developed. During the walk, participants can learn how the connection came about and how both cities still enjoy it. Also hear about the current partnership with the National Trust and explore the natural landscape of Bathampton Meadows.
Do you happen to be in Bath around september 11th? Then walk along!
The Walk is 4.5 miles, with many stops to take note of the story of the long-standing international friendship.
The walk starts at 11 am in the Alkmaar Garden near the Guildhall. It takes about four and a half hours to reach Bathford. The ground is mostly level, but there is a short incline down to The Meadows and a climb to Bathford Hill. There are some uneven trails and grassy stretches that can be wet and muddy.
There is a picnic stop, so bring a drink and a snack. Refreshments after the walk can be found at Bathford Village Shop & Café, or at the pubs/cafes in Bathford, Batheaston and Bathampton.
The walk ends around 3.30 pm at Bathford Village Shop and Café BA1 7SN. You can take a bus from Bathford or Batheaston back to the starting point in the centre of Bath. Those wishing to take an undemanding route back to the centre of Bath can return on their steps to the George Inn in Bathampton to join the towpath of the canal, adding just over 3 miles to the walk.
